Bashir Ahmad Expresses Concern Over Gaya’s ADC Defection Move

Gaya ADC defection move draws concern from Bashir Ahmad, who says APC should have retained the former governor to strengthen its base

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad has expressed concern over reports suggesting that former Kano State Governor Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya may be preparing to defect to the African Democratic Congress, a development that has further stirred reactions within the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Gaya’s political shift to ADC comes shortly after the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the same opposition party, a shift that Bashir Ahmad previously described as a sign of weakening support for the APC in Kano State.

In a post shared on his official X account on Tuesday night, Bashir Ahmad noted that while the APC is preparing to welcome former Kano State Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau back into its fold, reports indicate that Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya is considering a move in the opposite direction.

He expressed disappointment over the development, stating that he would have preferred Gaya to remain within the APC to help strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

Bashir Ahmad acknowledged Gaya’s right to make his own political choice but emphasised that unity and consolidation are crucial at this stage for the party’s growth and competitiveness.
