Gov Namadi warns appointees to support grassroots or resign

Gov Namadi grassroots support warning as Jigawa governor urges appointees to prioritise citizens or step down from office

Umar Namadi, Governor of Jigawa State, on Sunday, April 20, 2026, directed all political appointees in Dutse, Nigeria, to prioritise the welfare of grassroots communities or consider resigning, as part of efforts to strengthen people-centred governance.

The Gov Namadi grassroots support warning was issued during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, where the governor stressed the need for compassion, responsiveness, and accountability in public service.

According to a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media Affairs, Zainab S. Rabo, the governor urged appointees to remain closely connected to the people and address their needs effectively.

Namadi emphasised that governance must be rooted in service and mutual support, noting that leadership should reflect a genuine commitment to improving the lives of citizens at all levels.

The Gov Namadi grassroots support warning followed growing public complaints about some political office holders who were perceived as unresponsive and unwilling to assist constituents despite the benefits of their positions.

He expressed concern that some appointees had claimed they had little to offer, describing such attitudes as unacceptable within his administration.

“Anybody who feels he earns nothing to use in supporting the public should resign,” the governor said, in a firm and uncompromising tone.

Namadi reiterated that his administration remains committed to unity, shared responsibility, and the well-being of the masses, urging officials to align their actions with these guiding principles.
