Dr Sam Amadi Criticises Governors Defecting to APC

Dr Sam Amadi criticises governors defecting to APC, saying such moves threaten state development and centralisation logic

Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Dr Sam Amadi, has criticised recent defections of state governors to the ruling All Progressives Congress, warning that such moves undermine the purpose of state creation.

Dr Amadi said aligning with the centre in this manner contradicts the logic of harnessing state resources for local development.

“The idea of having a state is being able to harness your resources and development,” he said.

“We have not got economics right in terms of development. So now that everybody is going to the centre, are we going back to centralising?”

Dr Amadi emphasised that while political alignments may serve immediate interests, they risk reversing efforts to decentralise governance and empower individual states economically.

Reports was made that several governors, including those from Delta, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Enugu, Kano, Plateau, and most recently Taraba, have left their original parties to join the APC.
