Speaking in Lagos on Friday, Osuntokun, now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed concern over ambiguities in the recently signed Electoral Act (Amendment) 2026, particularly the absence of a provision requiring real-time electronic transmission of election results.
“Honestly, I am a bit confused about the interpretation of this so-called Amended Electoral Act. I don’t know how much difference there is between the earlier controversial copy and the one the President has signed,” he said.
He emphasised that, despite debates over the law’s contents, Nigerians must take primary responsibility for ensuring transparency and integrity in the electoral process.
“Whatever it is the case, at the end of the day, it is up to Nigerians to hold INEC to account,” Osuntokun added, urging citizens to remain vigilant and proactive in safeguarding democracy.
