INEC fake recruitment portal warning: The commission urges Nigerians not to click, share personal details, upload documents or make payments
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday, August 31, 2026, warned Nigerians against a fraudulent online recruitment notice claiming that the commission had begun recruiting and training ad-hoc personnel for the 2027 General Election.

INEC said the fake notice, currently circulating online, contains a link directing members of the public to a website falsely presented as an official recruitment platform.
The electoral commission stressed that neither the recruitment announcement nor the website originated from it.
“The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a message circulating online claiming that the Commission is currently recruiting and training ad-hoc staff for the 2027 General Election,” the commission said in a statement.
INEC said the fraudulent message was accompanied by a link to a purported recruitment website, warning that the platform was not an official channel of the commission.
“This information is not from INEC. The website/link being circulated is NOT an official INEC recruitment portal,” it said.
The commission urged members of the public not to interact with the platform, particularly by submitting personal information or uploading official documents.
“Members of the public are strongly advised NOT to click on the link, submit personal information, upload documents or make any payment through the platform,” INEC said.
The warning is particularly significant as political parties, prospective candidates and millions of Nigerians begin preparations for the 2027 elections, creating a fertile environment for scammers to exploit public interest in election-related opportunities.
INEC advised Nigerians seeking legitimate recruitment or election information to rely exclusively on its verified communication channels and official website.
“INEC’s official recruitment and election-related announcements are published through the Commission’s verified communication channels and official websites,” the electoral body said.
The commission specifically directed members of the public seeking authentic information to visit its official website at inecnigeria.org.
INEC also recalled that it had previously issued similar warnings over fraudulent websites and recruitment advertisements falsely claiming to represent the commission.
“The Commission has previously warned the public about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements purporting to originate from INEC,” it said.
The latest warning underscores the growing risk of online fraud as election preparations intensify, with fake recruitment opportunities potentially being used to harvest personal data, obtain sensitive documents or solicit payments from unsuspecting applicants.
INEC urged Nigerians not only to disregard the fraudulent notice but also to avoid helping scammers spread it further.
“Please disregard and do not circulate this false recruitment notice,” the commission said.
The electoral body concluded its warning with a reminder for Nigerians to verify online claims before taking action, particularly where personal information, official documents or money are requested.
