INEC Corrects APC Vote Count in FCT Kwali Poll

INEC FCT Kwali Vote clarified: APC scored 121 votes, correcting earlier social media claims of 1,219 votes

The Independent National Electoral Commission has clarified the official result of the Kwali Area Council polling unit in the Federal Capital Territory, confirming that the All Progressives Congress scored 121 votes, not 1,219 as widely circulated on social media.

The discrepancy arose at Kuroko Health Centre polling unit in Yangoji Ward, where 345 voters were registered and 213 accredited for the Saturday Area Council election.

A statement issued by Aminu K. Idris, Resident Electoral Commissioner for the FCT, explained that the initial error occurred during the tallying process.

The presiding officer originally recorded 122 votes for the APC but identified a single-vote overshoot during the open recount.

She subsequently corrected the figure to 121 votes and ensured the result was accurately reflected in both numeric and word form on the EC8B collation form.

“The official result recorded and uploaded from the polling unit shows that the political party in question scored 121 votes, not 1,219 as alleged on social media,” the statement read.

INEC emphasised that the current result management system makes the alleged manipulation technically impossible.

The clarification seeks to counter widespread online speculation and reinforce confidence in the integrity of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Electoral observers and stakeholders were urged to rely on verified results from the Commission’s IREV portal rather than social media claims, according to the FCT REC.
