Former Ondo PDP governorship candidate Eyitayo Jegede joins ADC with other PDP and APC figures as political activity intensifies ahead of 2027
Former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, formally joined the African Democratic Congress in Akure on Thursday, September 24, 2026, alongside other political figures from the PDP and All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was announced by former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, who said he joined the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and other leaders to welcome the new members.
Aregbesola said Jegede led the group of defectors received into the ADC during a ceremony at NEPA Park in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
“Today, I joined the Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alh. Atiku Abubakar, GCON, and other party leaders to receive decampees led by Balogun Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, alongside other political figures from the APC and PDP, into our great party,” Aregbesola wrote on X.
He added that the reception was held at NEPA Park in Akure.
Jegede previously contested the Ondo State governorship election on the PDP platform and has remained a prominent figure in the state’s opposition politics.
His move to the ADC brings another established political figure into the party as it builds its structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
Other political figures from both the PDP and APC were also received into the ADC during the event, although Aregbesola’s announcement did not provide a complete list of the new members.
The reception was attended by Atiku, Aregbesola and other ADC leaders, highlighting the party’s ongoing efforts to expand its political presence in Ondo State.
The development comes amid a period of movement between political parties as politicians and their supporters position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
For the ADC, the entry of Jegede and other politicians from established parties adds to its growing political organisation in Ondo State.
Jegede’s decision also marks a change in his party affiliation after his previous participation in Ondo governorship contests under the PDP.
The ADC is expected to continue strengthening its structures across the state as political activity increases ahead of the 2027 elections.

The latest defection does not by itself determine the outcome of the 2027 elections, but it adds to the series of political realignments taking place as parties prepare for the contest.
