Jigawa Residents Will Suffer if PDP Loses 2027 Polls, Chieftain Says

Jigawa PDP 2027 elections: Chieftain Umar Danjani warns of hardship if the party loses, citing its candidates’ experience and qualifications

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, has warned that residents could face four years of hardship and regret if the party loses the 2027 general elections.

Danjani, the immediate past PDP state deputy chairman and the party’s candidate for the Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin-Hausa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, made the remarks in Hausa in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

He argued that the party’s candidates possessed the experience, qualifications and political backgrounds needed to promote development and restore the state’s standing.

According to him, the consequences of the PDP losing the governorship election would extend beyond its candidates to affect the wider population of Jigawa State.

“Even if a governorship election is conducted today and the PDP fails to win, it will not be the party’s candidates alone who will suffer. The people of Jigawa State will be the ones to pay the price, enduring four years of regret,” Danjani said.

He praised former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, describing him as a committed political leader whose ideas and record in public service had contributed to the state’s development and national profile.

Danjani called Lamido one of the most outstanding governors in Northern Nigeria during his tenure, arguing that his administration established a standard of governance that subsequent leaders had struggled to match.

He also highlighted the PDP’s pool of political and public service figures, including former legislators, commissioners and individuals with doctoral qualifications, as evidence of the party’s leadership experience.

The party chieftain cited the experience of the state PDP campaign director-general, describing him as a political activist, businessman, former member of the Jigawa State House of Assembly and former permanent secretary.

He also praised the party’s governorship candidate, whom he described as a traditional ruler, businessman and political figure with three degrees in political studies.

Danjani said the candidate’s deputy had extensive public service experience, culminating in his appointment as Head of the Jigawa State Civil Service.

He further highlighted the credentials of the PDP’s senatorial candidate for Jigawa South-West, Sulaiman Abba, whom he described as a former senior police officer who rose through the ranks to become an Inspector-General of Police.

Danjani also claimed that the PDP had a distinctive advantage in legislative experience, arguing that it was the only party fielding three candidates who had each served as Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.

Speaking about his own political journey, he said his experience in party administration, public service and community engagement distinguished him from other contestants.

“Despite being among the younger contestants, I believe my record of political engagement, public service and personal relationships distinguishes me from my opponents,” he said.

He added that his political career included serving as state deputy chairman of the party and participating in efforts to secure the release of people he described as oppressed individuals from prison.

Danjani, who said he came from a family with a strong political heritage, argued that a PDP victory would represent more than a partisan achievement.

“PDP victory would offer Jigawa residents an opportunity to regain their dignity, pride and confidence in the state’s future,” he said.
