Former Plateau State governor and Senator Jonah Jang has refuted reports claiming he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the African Democratic Congress or the Social Democratic Party.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his media consultant, Clinton Garuba, Jang described the reports as “fake” and reiterated that he remains a committed member of the PDP, a party he helped to found.
“While the former governor would have ordinarily dismissed the so-called news item as yet another attempt by mischief-makers, it is imperative to state that, as a founding member of the PDP, Senator Jang remains in the party of pride of the Nigerian people – the PDP,” the statement read.
Jang acknowledged the party’s current turbulent phase but expressed confidence that ongoing court cases would resolve internal disputes and restore the PDP to its former prominence. “Distinguished Senator Jang strongly believes that the PDP will put its past behind it and reclaim its pride of place,” the statement added.
The clarification follows widespread social media speculation, particularly after the All Progressives Congress announced the defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, a protégé of Jang, from the PDP to the ruling party.
The announcement was made by APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda during the party’s 14th National Caucus meeting at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja.

Political observers noted that Jang’s statement aims to reassure party members and dispel uncertainty amid the ongoing realignment of Plateau State politics.
