FCT High Court Issues Bench Warrant for PDP Factional Chairman Kabiru Turaki

FCT High Court orders arrest of PDP factional chairman Kabiru Turaki for failing to appear in court over alleged false information to police

A Kabiru Turaki, factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), now faces a bench warrant issued by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for failing to appear for arraignment in a criminal case.

The presiding judge, Justice U.P. Kekemeke, ruled that Turaki had no valid reason for his absence and directed that he be arrested and produced before the court.

Turaki, who previously served as Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs under former President Goodluck Jonathan, is being prosecuted by the Inspector-General of Police on a one-count charge of allegedly providing false information in a petition dated October 2022.

The case was initially scheduled for January 28, 2026, but was stalled due to Turaki’s absence, despite a court order requiring his appearance.

His defence counsel argued that a petition seeking the transfer of the case to another judge caused the delay.

Justice Kekemeke clarified that filing a petition does not suspend criminal proceedings unless the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court issues a directive.

Following this, the court granted the prosecution’s application for a bench warrant.

The case has been adjourned for further proceedings.
