The candidates made their position known on Thursday during a meeting of the Gubernatorial Candidates Forum in Kaduna, where they discussed concerns affecting opposition parties and explored ways to work together.
The meeting also focused on protecting the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that political parties could participate in the 2027 elections without intimidation.
Chairman of the forum and governorship candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, Muhammad Aminu Abubakar, said opposition parties were determined to present a united front to pursue political change in the state.
“We, the participating opposition parties, are determined to work together to ensure a credible electoral process and bring about a change of government in Kaduna State in 2027,” he said.
Similarly, the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Usman Shehu Bawa, stressed the need for sustained cooperation among opposition parties, saying collaboration was necessary to protect their shared interests.
“I believe that sustained engagement, mutual understanding and collaboration among the parties will be crucial to building a stronger opposition capable of defending democratic values and promoting a credible electoral process in Kaduna State,” Bawa said.
The candidates also expressed their readiness to work together on issues of common concern, strengthen democratic participation and promote political competition based on fairness and mutual respect.
They further stressed the need to protect the electoral process against actions capable of undermining public confidence in democracy or denying political parties a level playing field.
The meeting was attended by governorship candidates representing several parties, including the PRP, PDP, New Democratic Party, Action Democratic Party, Action Alliance, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Zenith Labour Party, Young Progressives Party, National Rescue Movement, Accord Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, Democratic Leadership Alliance and Labour Party.
The gathering marked an effort by opposition candidates to strengthen their cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections, with participants pledging to defend the electoral process and pursue their shared political objectives.
