Kano 2027: Kwankwaso, Ganduje, Shekarau Clash in Major Political Battle

Kano 2027 political battle intensifies as Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya faces growing APC alliance involving Ganduje, Shekarau, and Governor Yusuf

Kano State is rapidly emerging as one of Nigeria’s most intense political theatres ahead of the 2027 general elections, as rival power blocs led by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and a strengthened coalition within the All Progressives Congress prepare for a high-stakes electoral contest.

Kano 2027 election battle Kwankwaso APC alliance dynamics are increasingly defined by shifting allegiances, with the Kwankwasiyya Movement repositioning under the African Democratic Congress while the APC consolidates support through a mix of established political heavyweights.

Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has dismissed criticisms of his repeated political realignments, insisting that his decisions are guided by principle and broad consultation rather than personal ambition.

Ibrahim Shekarau said his political movements are rooted in internal party democracy, stressing that leadership structures must remain responsive and inclusive to avoid alienating members.

He argued that political participation should be built on consultation at both state and local government levels, warning against what he described as selfish leadership tendencies within party systems.

Shekarau’s return to the APC has added new momentum to the emerging coalition, which also includes political influence from former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, further complicating Kano’s already fluid political landscape.

However, supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement remain confident in their political base, dismissing the emerging alliance as incapable of weakening their structure ahead of 2027.

A spokesperson for the movement, Mansur Umar Kurugu, argued that similar coalitions have failed in previous election cycles, insisting that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso maintains deep grassroots support across the state.

He said the movement is “fully prepared” for the 2027 elections, describing Kwankwaso as a dominant political force with a loyal following capable of withstanding elite alliances.

On the other side, APC loyalists have defended the strength of their emerging coalition, citing the combined political influence of incumbency, grassroots networks, and long-standing political structures as a major advantage.
