Kashim Imam breaks with Tinubu after 36 years, citing injustice and endorsing Atiku Abubakar in Nigeria’s upcoming elections
Kashim Imam, Chairman of Membership Registration and Revalidation and North East National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has officially severed ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after 36 years of friendship.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a video shared on X by Sulaiman Uwaisu Idris, also known as @KafinHausa.
In the video, Imam said his decision was guided by conscience and faith.
“I was a close ally of Tinubu for 36 years, but today I decided to part ways with him out of fear of God and a rejection of injustice,” he stated.
The ADC leader described the current administration as deeply unjust, adding: “Since the creation of Nigeria, I have never seen injustice like this one.”
He also declared his support for Atiku Abubakar, citing the former vice president as a leader capable of pursuing justice and rescuing the nation.
Imam emphasised that Nigeria is not lacking in resources but is suffering from poor leadership.
“There’s abundance of wealth in this country. If you go to every state, there’s wealth: hidden or seen. Our major problem is injustice from our leaders, and there has never been injustice like there is now,” he said.
He further downplayed the political influence of governors, insisting that ultimate power rests with ordinary Nigerians.
“As Sardauna said, if all the Nigerian governors would support Tinubu, it would not change anything. Governors do not vote. The poor hold the vote. This time, the poor are searching for their rights. They are aware of leaders that are for them, and the wicked ones,” Imam added.

The ADC leader concluded by expressing confidence in voters’ ability to make the right choice in the next elections, signalling a notable shift in the political landscape ahead of 2027.
