Governor Dikko Radda says Katsina will support Tinubu in 2027, citing his political ties with the state and support for its interests
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has expressed confidence that the state will support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.

Radda attributed the expected backing to Tinubu’s longstanding political relationships with Katsina leaders and what he described as the President’s support for the state’s political interests.
The governor spoke on Monday while receiving a delegation led by former Zamfara State Governor and Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Abdulaziz Yari.
Yari visited Katsina as part of efforts to mobilise support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election, with the delegation also visiting the Katsina and Daura emirates.
Although Yari declined to comment on the purpose of his visit, Radda said the delegation had concluded engagements with traditional rulers across the state.
“He was here to canvas for votes. He has gone around to visit the traditional institutions to explain to them the mission and vision of Mr President and his intention for this country,” the governor said.
Radda expressed confidence that the engagements would translate into electoral support for Tinubu.
“We assured them of our efforts to ensure the victory of Mr President come 2027 election, Insha Allah,” he said.
The governor also described the reception given to the delegation as encouraging, claiming that residents had responded positively to the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election.
“It was very interesting, and they have seen it themselves. Katsina has responded positively to supporting Mr President,” Radda said.
He further claimed that traditional rulers visited by the delegation had expressed their support for Tinubu and pledged their loyalty to the President.
According to Radda, the traditional rulers consider Tinubu “a son of the soil”, despite the President not being from Katsina State.
Explaining the basis of Tinubu’s relationship with Katsina, Radda pointed to the President’s longstanding political connections with prominent figures from the state.
The governor said Tinubu supported former President Muhammadu Buhari, who hailed from Katsina, while also maintaining a close political relationship with the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
“He has been a political friend to our late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. So Katsina State is his home, and he has come to reassure us,” Radda said.
Katsina remains an influential political state in northern Nigeria and was the home state of Buhari, who governed Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.
With political parties stepping up preparations for the 2027 general elections, efforts to secure the backing of state leaders, traditional institutions and grassroots stakeholders are increasingly shaping campaign activities.

Radda said he was optimistic that the engagements with traditional rulers and other stakeholders would further strengthen support for Tinubu as the country moves towards the 2027 presidential election.
