Kogi PDP will fly flags at half-mast for 40 days after burying former governor Ibrahim Idris and has set up an 11-member burial committee
The Peoples Democratic Party in Kogi State on Wednesday, 23 September 2026, ordered its flags flown at half-mast from the state secretariat, all 21 local government secretariats and ward offices until 40 days after the burial of former governor Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.

The State Working Committee took the decision at an emergency meeting in Lokoja chaired by State Chairman Muhammed Gambo. State Secretary Sunday Ibrahim signed the communiqué with him.
The party also named an 11-member Central Planning Committee, with Muhammed Gambo as chairman and Sunday Ibrahim as secretary.
The other members are Yahaya Karaku, Paul Ukwenya, Anthony M. Akuvada, Yunusa Adazaki, Toluhi Michael Segun, Audu Siyaka Uhanaye, Esther Abimbola Soje, Igagu Idris and Saba Ibrahim.
“The Committee is mandated to liaise with the family and the Kogi State Government to ensure a befitting burial for the late leader, with its terms of reference to be announced in due course,” the communiqué said.
Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, known as Ibro, died in London on Sunday, 20 September 2026, at the age of 77 after a brief illness. He governed Kogi from 2003 to January 2012.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has already announced a state burial, a three-day official mourning period and half-mast national and state flags at government offices.
The family, led by Alhaji Haruna Idris, has pledged to work with the government committee chaired by Deputy Governor Joel Salifu Oyibo.

The PDP thanked Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for that state honour. “The Party noted that the gesture was a testament to Alhaji Ibrahim Idris’s status as a former Governor and an elder statesman who served Kogi State meritoriously.” It asked members across the 21 local government areas to stay calm and prayerful, and prayed that Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanat Firdaus.
