NNPP Denies Kwankwaso Backing Defections

NNPP denies Rabi’u Kwankwaso endorsed any defections, clarifying reports linking him to moves toward the APC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has denied that its 2023 presidential candidate, Rabi’u Kwankwaso, endorsed any defections from the party.

The clarification was made by NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson.

Mr Johnson said Kwankwaso’s remarks had been taken out of context in attempts to misrepresent his position.

“I think I can say it plainly that he didn’t endorse any move either directly or indirectly. It was unfortunate that we had this breaking news suggesting he had made a U-turn and endorsed the purported movement by the governor to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. He didn’t, and that is why we pushed back on the issue,” Johnson said.

He added that anyone wishing to leave the NNPP should not drag Kwankwaso’s name into such decisions.

“They don’t need to tell the masses in Kano that he is in support of what is going on. They can simply move if they believe they’re moving to greener pastures,” he said.
