APC Accuses Kwankwaso of Plot to Rule Kano Through Son

APC accuses Rabiu Kwankwaso of plotting to control Kano politics through his son ahead of the 2027 governorship election

The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of attempting to maintain political control of the state through his son, Mustapha Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The allegation followed the emergence of Mustapha Kwankwaso as the deputy governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he was named running mate to governorship candidate Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

Mustapha, a former commissioner in the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, recently resigned alongside other cabinet members after political realignments in the state.

Reacting to the development, Kano APC chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa said the party was not surprised by the nomination, alleging that it fits into what he described as a long-standing political strategy by the former governor.

He claimed that Rabiu Kwankwaso had consistently sought ways to retain influence in Kano politics beyond constitutional limits.

“APC is not surprised with the nomination of Kwankwaso’s son, Mustapha, as running mate to Aminu Abdussalam in their NDC party,” Doguwa said.

“We know, and most of us who are very close to him know, that Kwankwaso tried all possible means to secure a third term in office.”

Doguwa further alleged that the nomination of Mustapha Kwankwaso represented an attempt to sustain political dominance through family ties, describing it as a continuation of earlier ambitions.

He insisted that the APC remained confident of victory in the 2027 elections despite the emerging opposition alignment in the state.
