Labour Party Sets 2027 Primary Election Timetable

Labour Party 2027 primaries timetable approved, covering governorship, legislative, and presidential elections

The National Executive Council, NEC, of the Labour Party has approved the timetable for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The NEC meeting was duly observed by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The schedule includes submission of the membership register to INEC on April 15, 2026, primaries for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and House of Assembly on May 15, 2026, and the presidential primary election on May 23, 2026.

The NEC also ratified the conduct of Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses scheduled for March 26, 28, and 31, 2026 respectively, and the National Convention set for April 11, 2026.

In addition, the council invoked disciplinary powers following reports of alleged attacks on the Party Secretariat by hoodlums.

Members suspended for acts of indiscipline and complicity in the incident include Eneyi G. Zidougha, Hilda Doukubo, Lincolin Charles, Muhammed Sabitu Aliyu, Ogar Osim, Vincent Okwuokei, Casmir Agbo Uchenna, Simon Zubairu Bamga, Abduljamid Sa’ad Suleiman, and several others.

NEC also approved the expansion of the Party’s membership register using a hybrid approach combining digital registration and manual registration in rural communities.

The initiative aims to modernise the Party’s database, strengthen participatory democracy, and enhance transparency and efficiency in line with the Electoral Act 2026.

Furthermore, the NEC resolved that all existing vacancies within Party structures would be filled through the appointment of interim leadership to ensure continuity in administration.
