APC Members Stage Violent Protest Over Lagos Primaries

APC members stage Lagos APC primary election protest in Ikeja, demanding cancellation of results over alleged irregularities and malpractice claims

Scores of members of the All Progressives Congress, APC staged a protest at the party’s Lagos State Secretariat in Ikeja, demanding the cancellation of disputed primary election results across several constituencies in what has escalated into a tense Lagos APC primary election protest.

The demonstrators, drawn from constituencies including Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency, Amuwo-Odofin Constituency II, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Oshodi-Isolo Constituency I, and Somolu Constituency II, called on the party leadership to urgently review alleged irregularities in the recently concluded House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly primaries.

APC conducted its legislative primaries in May 2026 and subsequently announced successful candidates.

However, several aspirants and party members have continued to reject the outcomes, insisting that the results do not reflect the will expressed during the party’s internal electoral process.

The protesters alleged widespread procedural breaches, urging both the party leadership and appeal panels to investigate complaints and ensure accountability in the selection process.

In separate petitions submitted during the protest, aspirants raised concerns over accreditation methods, result collation procedures, and alleged manipulation of electoral documents.

One of the petitioners, House of Representatives aspirant Ayodele Adewale, claimed that the exercise in Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency was marred by serious irregularities, including the absence of a verified membership register during accreditation and reliance on APC slips that were not officially validated.

Another aspirant, David Doherty, alleged that armed individuals disrupted voting in some riverine communities, forcing voters to flee polling units, while also claiming that aspirants were excluded from key decisions ahead of the exercise.

In Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, petitioners alleged result manipulation, inflated votes, and procedural violations, calling for forensic examination of disputed result sheets and signatures.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Prince Hakeem Ola described the situation as unfair and warned against attempts to impose candidates on party members, insisting that internal democracy must be respected.

Another protester, Oluwasola Olugbemi, also cautioned against what he described as efforts to override the preferences of party members, arguing that such actions could weaken trust in the party’s electoral process.

Despite heavy rainfall in the morning, the protesters gathered outside the secretariat chanting solidarity songs and demanding urgent intervention from the party leadership.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the APC dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that state chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi was harassed during the protest. In a statement, the party clarified that Ojelabi was not present at the secretariat at the time of the demonstration.

The party noted that while members have the constitutional right to express grievances, such actions must remain orderly and within established procedures.

It added that internal mechanisms for dispute resolution remain available and should be utilised.
