Governor Dauda Lawal’s defection to APC triggers surge in party membership in Zamfara, with over 60,000 new members joining in three days
The recent defection of Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress has triggered a remarkable surge in the party’s e-membership registration across Zamfara State.
Malam Abubukar Nakwada, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), revealed that just three days after reopening the APC registration portal, total registered members rose to 158,697, up from 97,710 prior to the governor’s move.

This reflects 60,987 new members joining in a short span, with over 20,000 daily registrations on average.
Nakwada attributed the surge to Governor Lawal’s strong grassroots appeal and expressed confidence that the party would meet its new membership targets before the March 25 deadline.
He also commended the resilience of supporters who participated despite harsh weather and fasting conditions.
