Najeem Salaam ADC candidate for Osun 2026 emerged unopposed after securing 520 votes at the party’s governorship primary in Osogbo
A former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, has emerged as the African Democratic Congress candidate for the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Mr Salaam secured the ADC ticket at the party’s governorship primary held on Monday at the Ultimate Civic Centre in Osogbo.
Addressing delegates before the exercise, the Chairman of the ADC 2026 Primary Election Committee, Mr Emeka Nwajiuba, said Mr Salaam was the sole aspirant cleared to contest the primary.
Mr Nwajiuba said records from the party’s Organising Secretary and the outcome of the screening exercise confirmed that Mr Salaam was the only contender for the ticket.
A total of 528 delegates drawn from the state’s 332 wards participated in the primary.
Announcing the results, Mr Nwajiuba said 520 valid votes were cast in favour of Mr Salaam, while eight votes were declared void.
Mr Nwajiuba subsequently declared Mr Salaam the ADC’s candidate and flag bearer for the 2026 Osun governorship election.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Salaam thanked party members and leaders for the confidence reposed in him.
He said he accepted the mandate with a deep sense of responsibility, describing the task ahead as challenging but achievable.

Mr Salaam added that the mandate reflected the hope of party members and supporters for a new direction in Osun State.
