NDC Appoints Ibezi to Lead Anambra Campaign for Obi

NDC appoints former lawmaker Ifeanyi Ibezi to coordinate its Anambra campaign, as the party targets voter mobilisation for Peter Obi in 2027

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former House of Representatives member Ifeanyi Ibezi as its Anambra State campaign coordinator ahead of the 2027 general elections, tasking him with mobilising support for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Ibezi, a former ally of Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, recently defected from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the NDC at a rally attended by party supporters.

His appointment is expected to strengthen the NDC’s campaign organisation in Anambra, Obi’s home state, as political parties prepare for the 2027 elections.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Ibezi called on residents to support Obi, arguing that the campaign must aim for a strong electoral mandate rather than merely winning the state.

“Anambra occupies a peculiar place in this campaign. As the home state of our presidential candidate, His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, the expectations are understandably high, and we must rise to meet them,” he said.

Ibezi said the party would need to reach undecided voters, people who feel excluded from the political system and those who have become disillusioned with elections.

He urged the campaign team to listen to voters, earn their confidence and encourage greater participation in the electoral process.

“Our responsibility goes beyond securing victory; we must work to ensure that Anambra delivers a resounding mandate, reflected in the strength and number of valid votes cast for Mr Peter Obi,” he stated.

Ibezi outlined an extensive mobilisation plan covering the state’s 21 local government areas, 326 wards and 5,720 polling units.

He said the campaign would extend to markets, churches and households as the party seeks to engage residents and encourage them to participate in the elections.

According to him, the objective is to translate voters’ aspirations into ballots while ensuring that every valid vote is counted.

“The work has begun, and there is no room for complacency,” Ibezi said, calling on party members and supporters to intensify their grassroots efforts.

He also stressed the need to reach people who have withdrawn from the electoral process because they believe their votes cannot influence political outcomes.

Ibezi’s appointment follows his departure from APGA, where he had been regarded as a supporter of Governor Soludo.

The move places him in a new political role as the NDC seeks to build its presence in Anambra ahead of the 2027 elections.

The source report described the appointment as an effort to draw on Ibezi’s political influence and strengthen the party’s campaign in a state central to Obi’s presidential bid.

The report also suggested that the development could intensify political competition with APGA, although the appointment itself does not establish how voters will respond.

With Ibezi now coordinating its Anambra campaign, the NDC is calling for broader voter engagement and grassroots mobilisation as it works towards its electoral objectives.
