Peter Obi delivered the appeal during the party’s second National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting held in Abuja, where senior party leaders, lawmakers, state chairmen and other stakeholders were in attendance.
The former Anambra State governor called on aggrieved aspirants to set aside grievances arising from the primaries and focus instead on building a credible political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing national challenges.
He acknowledged the contributions of party stakeholders present at the meeting and also apologised for the delayed commencement of proceedings, describing the gathering as an important moment for consolidating party progress.
Peter Obi noted that the NDC, despite being a relatively young political organisation, had recorded notable achievements within a short period, including the successful conduct of congresses, conventions and primaries within approximately 90 days.
Reinforcing his message, Peter Obi emphasised that internal competition was a natural feature of democratic processes, stressing that the true test of leadership lies in how members respond after such contests.
“I want to sincerely appeal to all our aspirants who participated in the primaries to accept the outcomes in good faith,” Peter Obi said.
“In every democratic process, there will be winners and there will be those who do not succeed. What matters is what we do after the process.”
