The NDC campaign council will be inaugurated once Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso submit nominations for the presidential campaign leadership
The Nigeria Democratic Congress said on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, that it would inaugurate its NDC campaign council after consultations with stakeholders, Osa Director, Esq., the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate, and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, his running mate, have met the national leader and other party officers on the makeup of the council.
The party has given them a free hand to nominate the Director General, Deputy Director General for the North, spokesman, deputy spokesperson, head of new media, finance director, deputy finance director and other officers, in consultation with the leadership.
“To ensure inclusiveness, cohesion, and victory, the party at the national level has agreed” that the two candidates shall make those nominations, the statement said.
Campaign money is to be handled by the finance director and deputy, working with the national treasurer. The party said it must account to the Independent National Electoral Commission under the Electoral Act.
A full organogram has been ready since August and sent to Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for comment, alongside names from other stakeholders.
The party said it would announce and inaugurate the council as soon as the candidates’ inputs arrive. A campaign timetable has also been proposed since August. Funding and fundraising, to be led by the candidates, are still being concluded.
Money raised is to go into a presidential campaign account managed by officers nominated by the ticket and by the national treasurer.
The inauguration had been planned for the first week of September. It was put off because of the presidential candidate’s travel schedule.
Osa Director asked candidates at every level to restrain supporters and keep their eyes on winning. “There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC.”
State and local government chairmen have been told to meet candidates and stakeholders at once and compile two lists of party agents: one for National Assembly elections and one for governorship and state assembly polls.
Those names are to be checked by the leadership, including Peter Obi and Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, before training starts. The final list is due within two weeks.
The agents committee is chaired by Comrade Babatunde Alli, Deputy National Chairman, South. Vin Martin Ilo is secretary. Dr Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the six zonal national vice chairmen are members.

The statement presents a party ready to start the formal campaign once the ticket returns its names. Until those nominations arrive, the council remains announced rather than inaugurated.
