NNPP uploads 2027 presidential placeholder and says INEC restored its original logo as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections
The New Nigeria People’s Party has announced that it has uploaded a placeholder presidential candidate to the Independent National Electoral Commission portal ahead of the 2027 general elections, while also confirming that its original party logo has been restored on the electoral body’s platform.

National Chairman Dr Major Agbo disclosed the development while addressing journalists, describing the restoration of the party’s emblem as a significant milestone in the NNPP’s leadership dispute and a confirmation of the legitimacy of the National Working Committee under his leadership.
The NNPP has faced a prolonged internal leadership crisis, with rival factions contesting control of the party, its identity and official logo as preparations for the 2027 elections intensified.
An independent check of the INEC portal showed the party’s original logo, featuring a basket of fruits on the map of Nigeria, displayed above the NNPP’s name.
“We are pleased to formally announce that the logo and identity of our party have been fully restored by INEC. Our dear and very cherished ‘Basket of Fruits on Nigerian Map’ is now back on the INEC portal,” Agbo said.
He added that the restoration reaffirmed the party’s legal standing and urged Nigerians to verify the change on the INEC portal, insisting that what he described as the party’s “fake” logo had been removed.
As part of preparations for the next general election, the party said it had completed the upload of 355 National Assembly candidates, including placeholders, across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Agbo also confirmed that the NNPP uploads 2027 presidential placeholder process had been completed in line with electoral guidelines but declined to reveal the identity of the placeholder candidate.
“Withholding his name and identity is a deliberate act on our part,” he said.
The party further disclosed that the upload of governorship and state House of Assembly candidates is underway and is expected to be completed before INEC’s August 8, 2026 deadline, after which the substitution and replacement window will begin.
The announcement comes as political parties intensify early preparations for the 2027 elections.
The use of placeholder candidates is permitted under Nigeria’s electoral framework, allowing parties to meet administrative deadlines before making final substitutions where the law permits.
Agbo described the latest developments as evidence of the party’s growing organisational strength and renewed readiness to compete nationally.

He also appealed to Nigerians, particularly young people, women, professionals, workers and members of the diaspora, to join the NNPP’s expanding membership drive ahead of the 2027 polls.
