Nonye Soludo celebrates Anambra students for winning the UK-Nigeria debate, hailing their brilliance as a true reflection of the state’s academic excellence
Nonye Soludo celebrates Anambra students following their victory at the inaugural UK-Nigeria Debate Championship, describing the feat as proof of the state’s long-standing culture of educational brilliance and excellence in global academic competitions.

In a congratulatory message issued in Awka over the weekend, Dr Soludo noted that the success recorded by the students is consistent with a proud tradition of excellence that Anambra has built over the years.
“This feat is only relatable to Anambra State. Our home is the moulding ground for exceptional talents and record setters who are tapping greatly from the abundant opportunities that our administration is offering,” she said.
She emphasised that defeating top-ranking UK schools in a prestigious international competition reinforces the government’s commitment to academic empowerment.
“By defeating Ivy League schools to clinch the coveted grand prize, our great students have shown, once again, that education lives in the core of Anambra’s most cherished dream. It’s a philosophy that our administration clearly understands and is constantly investing in to achieve the kind of result that we’re just celebrating,” Dr Soludo added.

The virtual debate, held on 19 June 2025, was co-hosted by Bring It On Africa and Debate Mate UK, with the objective of strengthening cross-cultural discourse and developing students’ analytical and oratory abilities.
Nigeria was represented by Britarch Schools and Sure Start School, both of Abuja; St Augustine’s College, Jos; and Saint John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu.
From the UK side were Central Foundation Girls’ School, Maghull High School, and Shireland High School.
The victorious team from Anambra comprised Chibueze Jennifer, Obiokafor Catherine, Eneoli Benjamin, and Onwuegbusi Valentine, under the mentorship of their coach, John Onuigbo.
Dr Soludo commended the school’s management and teaching staff for preparing the students thoroughly and instilling the confidence needed to excel on an international platform.

She concluded by reaffirming her administration’s resolve to make Anambra the intellectual hub of Nigeria, saying, “We will continue to invest in human capital because education is the foundation upon which our greatness as a people is built.”
