Reuben Abati Speaks On Obi, Kwankwaso NDC Defection Move

Obi Kwankwaso NDC defection analysed by Reuben Abati, who says both politicians moved over ADC uncertainties and possible legal challenges

Veteran journalist and former presidential aide Reuben Abati has said that former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso acted out of caution in their recent defection to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), citing uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Reuben Abati said the Obi Kwankwaso NDC defection reflects concerns over legal and structural issues allegedly affecting the ADC.

He noted that the referral of key party disputes to the Federal High Court has created uncertainty about the party’s future, which may have influenced the decision of both politicians to seek what he described as a more stable political platform.

Abati added that their move raises broader questions about future political alignments, including the possibility of a joint ticket or emerging alliance ahead of future elections.

He suggested that the situation leaves open several political scenarios, stressing that the direction both figures take next remains a key point of national interest.

Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso were formally received into the NDC on Sunday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by its national leader, Seriake Dickson, alongside top executives and supporters.
