DAILY POST reports that there were earlier speculations that both politicians were considering leaving the African Democratic Congress for the PRP before eventually opting for the Nigerian Democratic Congress.

Speaking on Wednesday during an interview with DITV Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed confirmed that talks were held but broke down after disagreements over key conditions attached to their proposed entry.

According to him, the major sticking point was the demand by the two politicians to be guaranteed the party’s presidential ticket without undergoing internal competition.

“They came and said they wanted to join the PRP, but when we sat down and discussed with them, there were certain demands they made,” he said.

He explained that the party rejected the request, insisting that PRP operates a democratic internal process where aspirants must compete for positions.

“Before they joined, they told us that they were the presidential candidates, meaning they should be given the ticket. We told them no, this is PRP; we do not practice that kind of politics,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed added that aspirants must first join the party before declaring intentions to contest elective positions, stressing that no automatic tickets are granted.
