In a personal statement issued in the state capital, Governor Okpebholo expressed sympathy for the affected members and warned against what he described as the importation of thugs under the guise of political activity.
The governor stated that such actions would not be tolerated in a state long regarded as one of the country’s most peaceful.
Governor Okpebholo, who serves as the state’s Chief Security Officer, said he believed the attack was intended to discredit Edo State and undermine its reputation.
He stressed that no form of political blackmail would weaken public support for his administration.
The governor added that politics should be rooted in performance, public engagement and trust, not violence.
He described the use of force to gain electoral advantage as reckless and lacking in integrity.
While reaffirming that his administration welcomes constructive opposition, Governor Okpebholo advised the African Democratic Congress to address what he characterised as internal disagreements rather than direct external accusations.
He urged residents to remain calm and maintain peace, insisting that Edo’s legacy of stability must be preserved.
