Ondo APC Elders Disown Aiyedatiwa’s Reconciliation Committee

Ondo APC elders disown Aiyedatiwa’s reconciliation committee, questioning the governor’s commitment to party unity ahead of the 2027 elections

The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State deepened on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as party elders said they were unaware of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reported reconciliation committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The elders, operating under the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, alleged that the governor had not demonstrated genuine commitment to reconciling aggrieved members of the party following recent internal disagreements.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Demola Ijabiyi, Chairman of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum, questioned Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts to unite the APC and mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

Ijabiyi argued that while the governor had announced several political support groups, many had failed to make any significant impact.

“We have carefully observed the Governor’s various attempts to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Unfortunately, these efforts have amounted largely to announcements without corresponding political impact,” Ijabiyi said.

He further claimed that support groups unveiled by the governor had quickly become inactive, while the Governor’s Advisory Council had remained largely ineffective.

According to Ijabiyi, the governor’s level of public engagement and political leadership has not matched expectations at a time when the party requires coordinated grassroots mobilisation ahead of the next general election.

The forum also alleged that Governor Aiyedatiwa was unhappy with the outcome of the APC’s internal candidate selection process, particularly the failure of several of his preferred aspirants to secure tickets for the National Assembly and the reduced influence he reportedly wielded in the emergence of some State House of Assembly candidates.

Ijabiyi further referenced reports and photographs showing the governor hosting a prominent opposition senatorial candidate, describing the development as one that had unsettled many APC members in the state.

“Recently, many party faithful were disturbed by reports and photographs showing the Governor hosting a prominent opposition senatorial candidate and allowing such images to enter the public domain,” he added.

The comments underscore lingering divisions within the Ondo APC despite efforts to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

As of the time of filing this report, Governor Aiyedatiwa and the Ondo State APC leadership had not publicly responded to the allegations raised by the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum.
