Rufai Oseni Raises Alarm Over Opposition Ballot Threat

Opposition ballot threat 2027 alleged by Rufai Oseni, who warns of possible moves to block Obi and Atiku from contesting 2027 elections

Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has raised concerns over what he described as a growing opposition ballot threat 2027, alleging that there may be attempts to prevent key political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, from appearing on the ballot in the next general election.

Oseni made the remarks during an appearance on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that ordered the deregistration of several political parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party, Action Peoples Party, Zenith Labour Party and Action Alliance Party.

The ruling, delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, stemmed from a suit filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, which argued that the affected parties failed to meet constitutional and statutory requirements for continued recognition.

The opposition ballot threat 2027 concern raised by Oseni comes amid growing political tension over the implications of the judgment, which also restricts the Independent National Electoral Commission from recognising the affected parties or accepting their nominations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Oseni warned that the decision could represent only an initial phase of broader political developments, suggesting that further actions may follow.

He urged opposition parties to remain vigilant, claiming that the current situation could reshape the electoral landscape ahead of the polls.

He also referenced recent electoral performances by some of the affected parties at state and local levels, arguing that the ruling raises questions about consistency in electoral recognition.

Oseni further stressed the need for Nigerians to pay close attention to judicial and electoral processes, calling for reforms aimed at strengthening democratic institutions and improving public trust in governance systems.

The comments have added to ongoing debate across political and civil spaces, with analysts closely watching how legal and political developments may influence party participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
