Oshiomhole accuses Akpabio of Senate removal plot

Adams Oshiomhole accuses Godswill Akpabio of bias, claiming the Senate President wants him removed from the Red Chamber

Senator Adams Oshiomhole has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of being biased against him, claiming the Senate leader sees him as a threat and would prefer him removed from the Red Chamber.

Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, made the allegation during an interview on the MIC ON PODCAST on Sunday, June 14, 2026, amid ongoing tension within the Senate over his recent comments on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

The former Edo State governor said Akpabio’s alleged hostility towards him was widely known among senators, despite his contributions to the All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election campaign.

Oshiomhole stated that he worked for the party’s victory and remained committed to the administration, while rejecting suggestions that he was seeking influence or control within the Senate.

“He is so paranoid about anything that has to do with me,” Oshiomhole alleged, adding that Akpabio would have blocked his presence in the Senate if he had the authority to do so.

The senator further claimed that some lawmakers were unhappy with Akpabio’s leadership style, predicting that the next Senate would operate differently from the current arrangement.

“The 11th Senate will not be like the 10th,” Oshiomhole said, alleging that some senators had expressed concerns about the current leadership approach.

He also disclosed that he had assured Akpabio that he was not desperate for any position, saying his priority remained serving his constituents effectively.

The dispute comes shortly after controversy over Oshiomhole’s remarks on the NNPCL, where he described the company in strong terms. The Senate later clarified that his comments represented his personal opinion and not the position of the institution.

The Senate subsequently passed a resolution stating that committees cannot issue arrest warrants without following legal procedures and obtaining approval from the Senate President.

Oshiomhole also recalled an alleged incident involving Senator Abdulaziz Yari, claiming Akpabio questioned Yari’s interest in joining his committee due to fears of a possible challenge to his leadership.

Akpabio has not publicly responded to Oshiomhole’s latest allegations. The disagreement highlights growing political tensions within Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber.
