PDP Condemns Plateau Killings, Calls for Urgent Security Action

PDP condemns Plateau killings in Jos South, urges investigation, prosecution, and urgent security measures to protect citizens

Jos, Plateau State The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemned the killing of seven citizens at a mining site in Wat, Kuru District of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, in a statement issued on Friday.

The press release was signed by Choji Felix Dalyop, Plateau State PDP Publicity Secretary.

The party described the Wednesday, 21 January, incident as a “senseless and tragic act” carried out by “enemies of the state” and said it underscores a deepening security crisis and apparent failure of government to protect lives and property.

Highlighting the constitutional duty of the state, the PDP referenced Section 14(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which prioritises the security and welfare of citizens.

The party argued that repeated attacks and loss of life have eroded public confidence and threaten democratic stability in Plateau State, often called the “Home of Peace and Tourism”.

The statement also cited a 2025 fact-finding committee established by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, noting that attackers reportedly came from neighbouring states.

The PDP demanded a transparent investigation into the killings, swift prosecution of the perpetrators, and a clear, actionable security plan to address the root causes of violence.

“Condemnation without concrete action will no longer suffice,” the party stressed.
