PDP Demands INEC Clarification Over Alleged Wike Cash, Land Gifts

PDP has urged INEC to clarify allegations that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike offered land and cash gifts to senior electoral officials, warning it could undermine public trust

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publicly clarify allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, allegedly offered land and cash gifts to some senior officials of the electoral body.

The opposition party made the demand in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong.

The PDP said the reports circulating in the media were disturbing and capable of eroding public confidence in the electoral commission.

“Last week, the news media was awash with stories of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, offering land and cash gifts to senior staff of the Commission,” the party said.

It also referenced claims attributed to the Supervising National Commissioner for the FCT, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who was reported to have acknowledged the land allocation.

The party questioned the basis of such allocations, arguing that other critical public service sectors had not received similar attention.

The PDP said, “It is curious that these land gifts are given to officials in agencies critical to elections, whereas there are other officials in critical development sectors like healthcare professionals, teachers, and security officials whose duties demand that they live in the capital city.”

The opposition party urged INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan to address the allegations and clarify the Commission’s position.

“We hereby demand that the National Chairman of INEC comes clean on these allegations against his top officials, and even himself, as he has also been alleged to be a beneficiary,” the statement added.

The PDP further warned that the situation, if left unaddressed, could deepen public mistrust in the electoral body, stressing that INEC must uphold transparency and impartiality in line with democratic expectations.
