PDP Leaders 2027 Coalition Talks Intensify as Atiku, Mark, Others Meet in Abuja

PDP leaders 2027 coalition gains momentum as Atiku, David Mark, and others hold strategic meeting to finalise alliance plan against Tinubu for 2027 polls

PDP leaders 2027 coalition efforts took a definitive turn on Monday as prominent figures within the Peoples Democratic Party, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark, converged in Abuja for a high-level strategy meeting.

The gathering, held behind closed doors at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, marks a significant step towards forming a broad-based opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The meeting brought together an influential group of party heavyweights, among them former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former PDP National Chairman Prince Uche Secondus, ex-Governors Aminu Tambuwal, Liyel Imoke, Babangida Aliyu, and Sam Egwu.

Sources at the venue confirmed that discussions focused on whether the PDP leaders would dissolve fully into the emerging coalition party or maintain their membership within the PDP while aligning electorally.

Presided over by Senator David Mark, the talks are part of a series of consultations designed to unify key opposition voices and consolidate political capital ahead of the 2027 race.

According to inside sources, the central issue is crafting a robust coalition platform that will not only attract disenchanted PDP members but also offer a formidable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

“The leaders are considering all options, including formal integration into the new political platform or a looser electoral alliance. What is certain is that the group is united on the need to challenge Tinubu with a stronger, more coherent front,” a participant at the meeting said.

Earlier reports indicate that the coalition has chosen the African Democratic Congress as its political vehicle, with Senator Mark selected to serve as interim chairman.

The official unveiling of the coalition platform is expected to take place on Wednesday.

Also present at the strategic meeting were Senator Ben Obi, former National Women Leader Josephine Anenih, former National Organising Secretary Senator Austin Akobundu, former PDP National Publicity Secretary Kola Ologbondiyan, and former National Youth Leader Abdullahi Maibasira.

The PDP leaders 2027 coalition talks signal a serious effort to reorganise Nigeria’s political opposition.

Many of the attendees are seasoned political actors with extensive grassroots networks, and their combined influence could reshape the opposition’s outlook ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Although no formal communiqué was issued after the meeting, multiple participants expressed confidence that the coalition would not be a mere merger of interests but a “renewed vision for Nigeria” aimed at governance reform, democratic strengthening, and youth inclusion.

A source close to the discussions explained, “What we are working on is not just about removing the APC, it is about creating a new political energy. Nigerians are tired of recycled slogans. This coalition will offer real ideas and leadership.”

The development is being closely monitored by political observers and ruling party strategists.

Analysts believe that if the PDP bloc unites with other opposition elements under a viable banner, it could present the most serious challenge to the APC since 2015.

With the PDP leaders 2027 coalition now nearing its unveiling, the political atmosphere in Abuja is expected to intensify.
