PDP denies signature forgery claim by Anyanwu

PDP signature forgery row deepens as party dismisses Anyanwu’s claim, confirms INEC letter was signed in presence of governors

PDP signature forgery allegations made by its National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, have been firmly rejected by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which insists the claim is false and misleading.

Addressing journalists in Abuja on Monday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stated unequivocally that Senator Anyanwu personally signed the letter notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the party’s planned national convention scheduled for 15–16 November in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Ologunagba clarified that the signing occurred hours before the 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on 25 August, and was done in the presence of top party stakeholders, including governors, NWC members, and former national leaders.

Those present, according to Ologunagba, included:

  • Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa)
  • Governor Bala Mohammed (Bauchi)
  • Governor Seyi Makinde (Oyo)
  • Governor Ademola Adeleke (Osun)
  • Governor Dauda Lawal (Zamfara)
  • Former Minister Tanimu Turaki
  • Former Senate President Bukola Saraki

“The PDP categorically states that Senator Anyanwu duly signed all necessary documents, including the INEC notification. His claim of signature forgery is baseless,” said Ologunagba.

He also noted that Governor Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, confirmed at the NEC meeting that all required letters had been signed and submitted in line with party protocols.

The rebuttal comes amidst growing internal tensions in the PDP, especially in the build-up to the November convention, which is expected to play a crucial role in determining the party’s direction ahead of the next general election cycle.

While Anyanwu’s allegation has sparked speculation of internal rifts, the NWC has downplayed the controversy, reiterating its commitment to due process and party unity.
