Peter Mbah Joins APC in Bold Move to Boost Enugu Growth

Peter Mbah joins APC in a bold step to accelerate development in Enugu, aligning with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Peter Mbah joins APC in what is being hailed by party leaders as a “visionary and strategic” decision aimed at unlocking greater development opportunities for Enugu State.

The governor, who had previously aligned with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said the move comes after years of loyalty that saw the South-East’s voice “too often disregarded.”

Mbah expressed confidence that this new alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would position Enugu for better visibility and inclusion at the national level.

The APC has warmly welcomed Mbah into its fold, with National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka praising the defection as a “courageous and visionary step.”

In a statement on Tuesday, Morka said Mbah’s decision would fast-track development and deepen good governance, aligning Enugu with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“This deft political move will consolidate and accelerate growth in Enugu State,” said Morka.

“Governor Mbah has already demonstrated leadership through his tech-driven approach to governance, and his recent Presidential GovTech Award only confirms his capacity for innovation.”

Meanwhile, the PDP faced fresh blows in Kaduna as three House of Representatives members — Abdulkarim Ahmed, Aliyu Mustapha, and Sadiq Ango-Abdullahi — resigned from the party to join the APC.

Their exits, read during plenary by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, cited internal party strife and alignment with Tinubu’s policies as key reasons for their defection.

In his resignation letter, Hon. Ahmed lamented the PDP’s persistent internal crises, stating it had become “a barrier” to effective representation.

He described his decision to switch parties as tough but necessary, made after consulting his constituents and political stakeholders.

The APC, riding on recent momentum, also saw prominent returns in Kaduna, including Senator Shehu Sani and Amos Magaji, fuelling speculation of an ongoing strategy to diminish opposition strength in the North-West.

Despite the growing number of high-profile defections, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu of Abia North insists the APC’s future success in the South-East will be earned through “consistency, sacrifice, and hard work.”

Speaking on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, Kalu dismissed the notion that defections alone would guarantee victory in 2027.

“We are not relying on defections to win,” he said. “We’re focused on performance and connection with the people. That’s how we’ll ensure the success of President Tinubu and the APC in the next election.”

Kalu also defended the administration’s ongoing reforms, admitting that while they come with hardship, they are necessary steps toward lasting economic recovery.

With the entrance of leaders like Mbah and the growing foothold in the South-East, the APC appears to be consolidating its base ahead of the next general elections — reshaping political alliances and realigning loyalties across Nigeria.
