Peter Obi and Goodluck Jonathan may rejoin PDP ahead of 2027 elections as opposition talks intensify, according to Senator Abba Moro
Peter Obi and Goodluck Jonathan may be on the verge of returning to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election, in what could be a strategic game-changer for the opposition.

This was revealed by Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, who confirmed during a live appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today that talks are ongoing to bring back both the former president and the Labour Party’s 2023 flagbearer.
“So, in the run-up to 2027, I am aware certain individuals have been talking to Peter Obi, ‘Hey, come back home… you stand a chance of being the candidate’,” Moro said during the interview on Tuesday.
He also hinted at possible discussions with former President Goodluck Jonathan, saying, “Some persons are talking to the former president to come and run. It is a possibility.”
This revelation has ignited fresh speculation about the PDP’s strategy to regain power, especially as Nigeria inches closer to the next general elections.
Jonathan, who ruled under the PDP from 2010 to 2015, has remained politically quiet since his historic defeat to Muhammadu Buhari.
Despite his low profile, Jonathan has not officially left the PDP, fueling hopes among supporters who want him to make a political comeback.
Obi, on the other hand, left the PDP in 2022 to contest under the Labour Party, where he gained massive youth support.
Though he came third in the 2023 elections, Obi has declared his interest in running again, now as part of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
What remains unclear is which platform Obi will eventually adopt.
Yet, insiders suggest that a return to PDP could be a powerful move for the former Anambra governor, especially if opposition parties unite behind a consensus candidate.
Political analysts say the potential return of Peter Obi and Goodluck Jonathan would reshape the electoral landscape and force both ruling and opposition parties to re-evaluate their strategies.

As Nigeria continues its march toward 2027, all eyes are on how these power moves will unfold — and whether the PDP can pull off the ultimate political comeback.
