Peter Obi holds strategic Bauchi talks for 2027 push

Peter Obi Bauchi meeting 2027 ambition continues as he meets Governor Bala Mohammed and leaders in closed-door talks on political strategy

Peter Obi, the 2027 presidential aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), on Thursday, 23 April 2026, held a closed-door meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed at the Government House in Bauchi, Nigeria, as part of widening consultations ahead of the next general election.

The meeting, which lasted several hours behind closed doors, focused on Obi’s political ambitions and broader discussions around national unity, governance priorities, and coalition building.

Peter Obi arrived with a delegation that included prominent Igbo elders, ADC senators from the South-East, and close political associates, signalling a coordinated outreach effort across regional and political lines.

Among those present were Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe of Abia South, both key figures in the South-East political structure.

Professor Udenta O. Udenta, Director of the Centre for Alternative Policy Perspectives and Strategy, was also part of the delegation.

Although details of the discussions were not disclosed, the engagement is widely seen as part of Obi’s strategic groundwork as political actors intensify alignments ahead of 2027.

Governor Bala Mohammed, a senior figure within the opposition political space, is understood to have engaged the delegation on national cohesion and the need for inclusive political dialogue in the country.

The visit has already sparked political reactions online, with supporters describing it as a “strategic coalition move”, while critics questioned its long-term political implications.
