NNPP Denies Rabiu Kwankwaso Discussed Joining APC

NNPP rejects claims Rabiu Kwankwaso negotiated joining APC, insisting no meetings or talks took place with party leaders or representatives

The New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, has officially rejected reports that its national leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, engaged in talks to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, told DAILY POST that Kwankwaso never considered defecting and that claims of negotiations or demands made to the APC are false.

“It is really sad that these lies are not only being fabricated by some individuals attempting to appear important but are also published as main stories in major newspapers,” Johnson said in a statement.

He emphasized that Kwankwaso never met President Bola Tinubu or any APC representatives to discuss a potential defection.

Johnson described reports suggesting otherwise as a “terrible campaign of false accusations” intended to damage the former Kano State governor’s reputation.

The denial follows claims by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf that Kwankwaso’s purported “high demands” had stalled talks for a defection.

Johnson dismissed these reports, stating they are unfounded and misleading.

“Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso never had any meetings regarding a switch to the APC. Nigerians should ignore these media stories and opinion pieces designed to misrepresent the truth,” Johnson added.

Political observers note that speculation about defections often intensifies ahead of election cycles, but NNPP insists that Kwankwaso remains firmly committed to his party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
