The lawmaker announced his defection in a letter read by the Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, during plenary at the Assembly Complex, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Kashamu cited factional disputes at the national level and leadership tussles within the PDP at the state level as primary reasons for his move.
He also emphasised constituent support as a motivating factor.
“I have consulted widely with my constituents, including all stakeholders and traditional rulers, who gave me the go-ahead to announce my defection at the floor of the House,” Kashamu stated.
The lawmaker expressed his desire to join other progressives in Ogun State to support Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Iseya Agenda and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“After reviewing the state of affairs within the PDP, and considering the pro-people legacy and support of my constituents, we agreed to move en masse into the APC to bring our winning formula in Ijebu North 1 into the party,” he said.
