INEC has fixed June 20 for the Rivers South-East senatorial by-election across seven local government areas in Rivers State
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced plans to conduct a by-election for the vacant Rivers South-East Senatorial District seat on June 20.

The announcement was made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Rivers State, Johnson Alalibo, in a statement issued to journalists on Thursday in Port Harcourt.
Alalibo said the election will hold between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. across the senatorial district.
He explained that the exercise will cover 88 registration areas and 1,629 polling units spread across seven local government areas in the district.
The affected local government areas include Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro, Eleme, Tai, Oyigbo, Khana, and Gokana.
INEC assured residents and political stakeholders of its commitment to conducting a free, fair, and credible by-election in the state.
The commission also urged eligible voters in the senatorial district to turn out peacefully and participate in the electoral process.

The forthcoming exercise is expected to fill the vacant Rivers South-East senatorial seat following the commission’s timetable for pending electoral vacancies nationwide.
