Seriake Dickson 2027 election message says every vote will count as he calls for peaceful polls and respect for Nigerians’ democratic choices
National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, has assured Nigerians that every vote will count in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the will of the electorate remains greater than the interests of individual politicians.

Dickson, who served as Governor of Bayelsa State, made the statement in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, where he called for vigilance and peaceful participation as political activities continue ahead of the next election cycle.
The former governor said attempts to influence elections through violence, intimidation or manipulation of results would not succeed, stressing that democratic institutions must reflect the genuine choices of citizens.
“I want to assure you that every vote will count. There will be no room for violence, intimidation, or the deployment of security operatives and armed thugs against law-abiding citizens, as some people do,” Dickson wrote.
He argued that the authority of the people should remain the foundation of any democratic process and urged Nigerians to resist actions that could undermine free and fair elections.
“We believe the people’s will is supreme. Together, we must remain vigilant and ready to democratically resist intimidation, oppression, violence, inducements, and every attempt to undermine the will of our people,” he said.
Dickson also expressed confidence in his party’s ability to compete in the 2027 elections, recalling previous political contests where he said democratic forces had overcome significant challenges.
“We have defeated federal might severally before, and, by the grace of God, we shall do so again, with me leading from the front,” he added.
His comments come as political parties and potential candidates begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with electoral integrity, security and public confidence expected to remain major issues in national discussions.
Nigeria’s elections have historically faced concerns over voter intimidation, electoral violence and disputes over results, prompting repeated calls from political actors, civil society organisations and election observers for stronger safeguards.
