Ibrahim Shekarau Gains Boost As APC Aspirants Step Down

Six APC aspirants have withdrawn from the Kano Central senatorial race to endorse Ibrahim Shekarau ahead of the 2027 elections

Six aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) seeking the Kano Central Senatorial District ticket have withdrawn from the race and endorsed former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The aspirants, Usman Bala, Sha’aban Sharada, Muhammad Zango, Danyaro Yakasai, Abbas Sani Abbas and Shehu Isa Driver, announced their decision after a strategic meeting held in Abuja on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the group said the decision was driven by a desire to promote unity, peace and stability within the APC in Kano State.

They explained that stepping down in favour of Ibrahim Shekarau was a collective move aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.

According to the aspirants, the endorsement reflects a broader commitment to party cohesion and political progress in Kano Central Senatorial District.

“We decided to withdraw and support Senator Ibrahim Shekarau to ensure unity and stability within the party and Kano Central,” the aspirants stated.

The development comes shortly after the former Kano State governor formally joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that has continued to reshape political alignments ahead of 2027.

Political observers say the endorsement could significantly strengthen Shekarau’s influence within the APC structure in Kano, where internal competition for party tickets has historically been intense.
