Six Osun Lawmakers Defect From PDP to Accord Party

Six Osun Lawmakers Defect to Accord Party, boosting Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid ahead of the August 15 polls

Six members of the House of Representatives from Osun State have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Accord Party, in a move announced during a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Monday.

The announcement was made by Clement Akanni, representing Boluwaduro/Ifedayo/Ila Federal Constituency, on behalf of the other lawmakers, including Mahruf Adewale, Bamidele Salam, Soji Adetunji, Mudashiru Lukman Alani, and Lanre Oladebo.

Clement Akanni expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke would secure victory in the governorship election scheduled for 15 August, urging party members to vote en masse and monitor the process to ensure transparency.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who joined the Accord Party in December 2025, explained that his defection followed personal reflection and consultations after observing internal challenges within the PDP.

He also credited trusted advisors and spiritual guidance in finalising his decision.

The defection aligns with a broader trend, as 25 members of the Osun State House of Assembly previously elected under the PDP also switched allegiance to the Accord Party.

According to them, the move enables them to continue serving their constituencies under the new platform.
