With polls set for Saturday, July 12, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, met with All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates from the Lagos West Senatorial District at the Assembly complex on Tuesday.

He urged them to engage in door-to-door canvassing with renewed energy.

“Engage with everyone in the community, regardless of their ethnic background or religion,” he implored.

Obasa reminded them that no day must end without connections being deepened and votes secured.

In a show of commitment, the Speaker contributed generously to the candidates’ campaign funds.

He also assured them that the Assembly’s full support would extend before, during, and after the elections.

At the gathering of APC chairmen, vice-chairmen, and councillorship aspirants, Obasa emphasised that victory would depend on consistent campaigning and active supervision of grassroots teams.

He appealed for a service-first attitude once in office and respect for democratic institutions.

Obasa took pride in Lagos’s unique four‑year tenure for local government chairmen, highlighting its potential to enable lasting community development and stability.

Engage with everyone in the community, regardless of their ethnic background or religion.

This meeting left an urgent sense of purpose among APC candidates as they prepared to escalate outreach initiatives.

They vowed to carry Obasa’s message of dedication and service into every ward.

In another development, the Lagos State Railway Corporation Bill and Ibile Energy Corporation Bill passed their second readings in the House.

Majority Leader Hon. Noheem Babatunde Adams presented the railway bill, aiming to establish a governance board and bolster efficient transport.

He noted Lagos’s position as Africa’s second-largest city economy and stressed the need for a rail network comparable to continental peers.

The Ibile Energy Corporation Bill, introduced by Hon. Sobur Oluwa, chair of the Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, aims to attract investment and transform the state’s energy sector.

Speaker Obasa praised both bills as milestones in infrastructure modernisation. He referred them to the committees on Transportation and Energy and Mineral Resources, urging swift reports.
