Sule Lamido warns PDP crisis may force exit

Sule Lamido warns the PDP crisis could force him to leave the party, saying unresolved divisions threaten Nigeria’s main opposition

Former Jigawa State Governor and senior Peoples Democratic Party figure, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has warned that the unresolved internal crisis within the PDP could compel him to leave the party, raising fresh concerns about the stability of Nigeria’s main opposition

Alhaji Lamido made the remark in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Tuesday, monitored in Kaduna, where he expressed deep frustration over what he described as deliberate efforts by some individuals to weaken and ultimately destroy the party.

The former governor said that if the PDP leadership failed to urgently resolve its internal problems, he would consider aligning with another political party in line with his personal conviction and political principles.

According to him, the continued failure to address deepening divisions within the PDP was disheartening, especially for loyal members who had invested years in building the party as a national platform.

Alhaji Lamido said the PDP, once seen as a unifying force in Nigeria’s political landscape, was now engulfed in internal wrangling that had left many members disillusioned.

He warned that persistent infighting could further erode the party’s strength ahead of future elections if decisive steps were not taken to restore unity and discipline.

The elder statesman added that while he remained committed to democratic ideals, he would not hesitate to take a decision he believed was best for himself should the PDP crisis continue unresolved.
