Mustafa Sule-Lamido wins PDP governorship ticket in Jigawa unopposed, pledging unity, reform and renewed hope ahead of next year’s general election
Alhaji Mustafa Sule-Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the state ahead of the 2026 general elections after being declared the sole aspirant.

The Returning Officer for the primary election, Mr Isa Ahmed, announced the result on Sunday, May 25, 2026, confirming that Sule-Lamido was returned unopposed in line with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
The declaration effectively clears him to represent the PDP in the forthcoming governorship contest in Jigawa State.
Mr Isa Ahmed stated that the primary exercise followed due process and complied with the PDP’s internal electoral rules.
He noted that the emergence of Sule-Lamido as the party’s candidate reflected the consensus arrangement reached within the party structure in the state.
The process, according to party officials, was conducted in line with established guidelines governing the selection of candidates.
Speaking after his emergence, Mustafa Sule-Lamido expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the PDP for their support and confidence in his candidacy.
He described the moment as a continuation of his political journey, recalling his involvement in the 2023 election cycle.
He said the experience gained in the previous election had strengthened his resolve to pursue a more united and strategic campaign.
Sule-Lamido called for unity among party members, stressing the need to build a campaign anchored on reform, hope and collective responsibility.
He stated that although the party did not secure victory in the previous election, it succeeded in building a strong political foundation and earning significant public trust.
