The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication made the statement via his verified X handle on Tuesday, dismissing Melaye’s comments as “entertainment, not enlightenment.”

The reaction followed an Arise News interview in which Melaye mocked the administration’s borrowing practices.

He warned that Nigeria’s rising debt might soon push the government to seek loans from local fintech firms.

But Sunday Dare Slams Dino Melaye again with facts from the Debt Management Office, stating that the nation’s total public debt stood at ₦149.39 trillion as of March 31, 2025.

He insisted the increase is not due to reckless borrowing but mainly driven by the naira’s depreciation, which inflated existing external debts.

Dare emphasized that Nigeria’s debt-to-GDP ratio remains moderate at 40–45%, especially compared to countries like South Africa and Ghana.

According to him, the real issue is revenue mobilization, not borrowing itself.

“Borrowing is a legitimate tool for financing reforms,” Dare said, calling Melaye’s outbursts “political theatrics.”

He accused the ex-lawmaker of prioritizing showmanship over facts and warned that such commentary could mislead the public.

Dare reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to responsible borrowing, revenue growth, and transparent debt management.
