Sura, who hails from Mangu Local Government Area, the same council area as incumbent Governor Caleb Mutfwang, was presented to the ADC leadership at the party’s national headquarters following his acquisition of the forms.
Speaking during the presentation, the retired Army officer expressed confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process and pledged to pursue policies aimed at restoring security, strengthening economic growth and promoting peaceful coexistence across Plateau State.
“I am driven by what matters now on the Plateau, which is the safety of lives and property, prosperity and the conviction to establish Plateau as a haven for mutually beneficial coexistence among the good people of Plateau State and beyond,” Sura said.
The former military officer, who recently left the All Progressives Congress, said his governorship ambition was motivated by the need to address insecurity and improve the welfare of residents.
“This will be the beginning of the best collective movement for the new Plateau State. My ambition is not centered on personal gains but on what matters now to the people of the state,” he added.
Sura’s entry adds another prominent contender to the growing field of aspirants ahead of the 2027 election. Political observers say the development could reshape political calculations in Mangu Local Government Area, a key political base in the state.
His declaration comes after two other notable politicians from Mangu, Sunny Garba Biggs and Jude Eli Dakur, left the APC to pursue governorship ambitions on different political platforms.
Dakur, a former Commissioner for Education and Mineral Development, joined the ADC in April 2026 and has since launched his campaign, emerging as one of the notable aspirants in the race.

The emergence of multiple governorship hopefuls from Mangu is expected to intensify political competition as parties begin positioning for the 2027 Plateau governorship election.
